AVANT JAZZ SHOWCASE 2.20.23 7-10PM $20

Join us, Monday February 20th 7-10pm for a President’s Day avant-jazz showcase featuring some of the heaviest hitters in contemporary creative music.

ILLEGAL SON- Portland based trombone virtuoso Denzel Mendoza is “Undocumented and Unafraid” despite living in the US since childhood. His powerful compositions thrust through political terrain into higher realms of Spirit Music.

TILT from NYC features Kalia Vandever, an American trombonist and composer living in Brooklyn, NY. Her approach to the trombone is distinctive and defined by her sonorous tone and lyrical improvisational voice. She leans into the challenges of the instrument and allows patience and melody guide her process.

Rob McGill is based in Ojai, CA where he runs Weird Cry Records. We know him primarily as a firebrand tenor saxophonist in the spirit of Albert Ayler but he promised us some extra surprises for this NW tour!

Ben Bennett and Arrington de Dionyso have been frequent collaborators since the 2017 “This Saxophone Kills Fascists” tour. Their 2020 album “Exorcism in America” was recorded on the very same day that US election results were finally announced. Ben Bennett is also known globally for his sometimes baffling YouTube series “Sitting and Smiling” which hosts hundreds of videos, each exactly four hours long, featuring Ben doing absolutely nothing except sitting and smiling at the camera.
